OUR FAMILY

The girls were on vacation this month. We enjoyed the family time together. We were able to get medical check-ups for our daughters and Anita. They are fine, but Genesis needs glasses now because she has an astigmatism like me. She also needs some dental work. Anita also had her check-up and is doing very well as is Galilee. Bethlehem was a sick for a while while but is better now. I will visit the doctor next month for my check-up.

OUR MINISTRY

• We had another session for our School of Ministry. We shared shared Pastoral Counseling and then attended the National Congress in Theology.
• I shared in conferences at the National Theological Congress of the Ecuadorian Baptist Convention. I spoke on the Theological Principles of the Baptists and Their Mission. I also helped with the music and board discussions. The meeting was for three days in La Merced, a Baptist Camp 30 miles from Quito.
• We went to Alluriquin (90 miles from Quito) to visit our family. We were also able to visit our little baptist church there and The New Life Baptist Church in Toachi. We participated in four baptisms and celebrated the 90th birthday of my father, Joaquin.
• I preached the last Sunday of August in our home church (UBC), about the Church and Witness, being the Community of Jesus (Hb. 12:1-3)
• I was invited by International Mission Board/SBC missionaries to go to San Lorenzo (in Esmeraldas province, 200 miles from Quito). I helped at ten refugee camps that are there because of the war in Colombia.

MISCELLANEOUS

• We attended a week long conference about Ephesians with a pastor from First Baptist Church of NY (Vincent Sawyer) It was a good experience to grow in our knowledge of Ephesians. We also received a visit from Dr. John Nicholls, a teacher of Oklahoma Baptist University, who shared about Baptist History.
• Anita will be attending a special conference on ministry to teenagers. This is very important for her studies and work.
  

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS & NEEDS

• Thanks giving to our Lord Jesus, because a brother in Christ from USA gave us money to buy the projector for our educative ministry; and also for the scholarship for Anita. Praise the Lord.
• Please continue praying for our monthly finances, we need to get more donors

OUR FAMILY

• July and August is vacation for my daughters.
• Anita and my daughters were gone to Puerto Lopez for one week to visit her mother and our little baptist church there.
• My father Joaquin is much better now although he needs medical treatment for the rest of his life.

OUR MINISTRY

• Joselito preached at Candelaria Baptist Church on the first Sunday of the month. We also had a funeral for a little girl (six years old). This provided an opportunity to preach the Gospel of our Lord Jesus to many unbelievers.
• We also went to visit the Baptist Church in Sangolqui (30 miles from Quito). Anita shared in the adult Sunday class, and Joselito shared the youth class and then preached the morning sermon.

MISCELLANEOUS

• We continue to minister in Quito with the special program for advanced students at the Ecuadorian Baptist Theological Seminary. Anita and I are both teaching on the Bachelor level of this program.
• I had an appointment with the embassy in Quito on July 16 to apply for a visa to travel to the United States. The result of the meeting was: No visa for me. The reason? Well, the man at the embassy told me, "I want to see your monthly payroll. You need to have a permanent salary." I answered, "But I'm a faith missionary, I don't have this situation." The result was that I may be able to get the visa in a year if my work situation is different. As a result, this month was very stressful for me. The process and result was difficult. I am very sad and confused, but know it is the will of God. I hope in the grace of my Lord Jesus because my future is in His hands.

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS & NEEDS

• For our monthly budget, and new donors
• For the Anita's scholarship for the Masters in Counseling Program ($1500usd).
• We have an urgent need for a projector for teaching and training

OUR FAMILY

• This month classes ended for our daughters. We will go on vacation to the beach (our favorite place), to rest and enjoy our family.
• My father Joaquin is very sick. He had a pacemaker implanted seven years ago. This month he was with us in Quito for several medical tests. He is 90 years old, and he has arterial hypertension and cardiac insufficiency and is very critical. Please pray for him.
• Joselito is looking for a part time job –part time- because our support is very low, and the financial horizon does not look good for us. We have a new member in our family, my niece Michelle who is an orphan. Her father is not responsible, so we have taken her in. Please pray for this situation.

OUR MINISTRY

• Joselito preached in our home Church (UBC) about the being a biblical father (The Model of Joseph, father of Jesus). The sermon powerpoint is available (in spanish). under the conference heading below my profile picture
• Anita taught a few conferences about Christian sexuality at our home church and Candelaria Baptist Church. She enjoy this ministry, because it is her specialty.
• Joselito went to Cuzco-Perú with a special group from our church Louisville KY-USA, Ninth and O Baptist Church. The team was under leadership of my friend and partner Dr. David Sills. It was a nice experience for me to visit this Andean country, and to serve to my Lord in cross-cultural missions in another country and to grow and fellowship with my brothers from USA. Our group was nineteen people. We worked in evangelism, medical clinics and discipleship in Ancahuasi (an indigenous community). There is a little baptist church that is very poor and has many needs. We also visited Macchu Picchu. I preached the gospel of our Lord Jesus to 600 students at the elementary school. It was my first trip to Peru. I hope to continue serving there and in others countries in LA.

MISCELLANEOUS

• We began a special program in Quito for advanced students in the Ecuadorian Baptist Theological Seminary. Anita and I are teaching on the Bachelor level of this program.
• Joselito wrote his new book (160 pages), about the Baptist Theology. He needs money to printing 1000 copies (approximately $2000 total)
• Joselito & Anita attended a special conference for leaders and pastors about having a healthy marriage. We are going to teach eight months of special conferences on Christian family for Candelaria Baptist Church, our Home Church (UBC), and Puerto Lopez Baptist Church. The materials are provided by the International Bible Society.
  

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS

• For the scholarship for Anita to pursue her Masters in Christian Counseling ($1500).
• Continue praying for our economic support please, it is extremely critical
• For the Joselito's visa. He needs to go to the USA in August (SBPH). His appointment with the embassy in Quito is on July 16.

OUR FAMILY

Joselito had his birthday on April 7. Now, he is very old! This was a special month for him as he fulfilled the goal of completing his doctoral degree. Anita went to Puerto Lopez with Belén to rest a few days, to visit her mother and our little Baptist church there.

OUR MINISTRY

• We went to visit the Baptist churches in Calacali­ and San Antonio de Pichincha (20 miles from Quito). Joselito preached in the both places.
• We attended Joselito's graduation as he earned his PhD in Theology. He won the following awards: best student of 2007; best thesis; and the first student with PhD in Theology at VIU in Latin America.
• Joselito went to Guayaquil for the graduation service of two students with a Bachelor Degree from the Ecuadorian Baptist Theological Seminary.
• We went to Toachi to visit the Baptist church. Joselito preached in the Sunday service and Anita taught the class for kids.
• Joselito went to Puyo (180 miles from Quito) to teach a special Missiology course for the university.
• At the end of the month, Joselito officiated a marriage ceremony at our home church for a couple we disciple.

MISCELLANEOUS

Anita is very excited about her Masters program in pastoral counseling. Pray for her and for me, as I need to care our daughters during her studies.

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS

• Pray for our economic support please, right now it is very low (it really is critical).
• Pray for scholarships for Anita's studies. We need $1,500 for her tuition.
• Pray for our ministry funds: we need for scholarships, books, and for the operation of our School of Ministry.

Missionary Prayer Letter- March 2007

OUR FAMILY

Genesis celebrates her 9th birthday on March 21. We are thinking of putting our daughters in a Christian School (possibly Alliance Academy), but it is very expensive. There is a chance they may get scholarships if Anita can teach and help reduce the cost. Pray for this to work out quickly; the current school is not Christian and we have many problems with their secular activities and worldly parties.

OUR MINISTRY

• Anita went to Puerto Lopez to help lead and teach the Vacation School. Eighty children attended and many made decisions to follow Christ.
• We received a visit from our brother and partner Russell Leatherman (and an associate) from http://www.nbri.net/. It was a nice experience to increase our fellowship this ministry. We visited Candelaria Baptist Church, HCJB World Radio, the School of Ministry and our home church (University Baptist Church).
• Anita went to Santo Domingo, with the ladies of Candelaria Baptist Church on a ladies retreat and shared a special conference for them.
• Joselito spoke at a special conference for the young Baptist people in Pichincha Association about the interpretation of the Bible.
• Joselito preached in Candelaria and also shared the Bible study. We received many Survey of the Bible books to teach the members in Candelaria over the next three months.
• Joselito went to the countryside for three days to visit three Baptist churches in the mountains (Toachi, Dos Rios & Alluriquín) He preached every day, sharing in a few family conferences, and encouraging the brothers and pastors there. While there , they were able to celebrate baptisms and a communion service.
• We had our intensive week of studies with the pastoral training program in Quito. Joselito was teaching Church Ministry (Administration & Education). The next session will be in May. Anita is helping with the logistical aspects and secretarial duties.

MISCELLANEOUS

Anita began her Master's program in Pastoral Counseling through Vision International University (VIU). She is very excited about that. Pray for her, please! I will need to help with the care of our daughters.

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS

• Please don't forget to pray for our economic support; Right now it is critically low.
• We need a laptop & in-focus projector.
• We need scholarships for our pastoral students of the countryside. They are very poor and have very few resources.

OUR FAMILY

Anita & I have been married for twelve years. We give many thanks to our Lord and Shepherd Jesus for this wonderful experience. The most important thing is that our daughters are growing up in the fear of the Lord. Our lasting heritage for them is a simple message: To love Jesus. That's all we want!

OUR MINISTRY

• Seven years ago our home church (UBC) split. However, the congregations reconciled on the first Sunday of this past February. Praise the Lord! This is a big blessing and miracle. We are very excited and we have many dreams!
• Anita shared a special conference & crafts for the ladies at Candelaria Baptist Church, and Joselito is preaching there one time per month. Also, we are both helping with a few family counseling cases at Candelaria.
• We went to the countryside to visit three small Baptist churches (Toachi, Alluriquín y Dos Ríos). In March we will return there for three days to teach, baptize, preach, and to celebrate communion.
• Joselito and others musicians played the guitar in a special concert of hymns in our home church. It was a wonderful experience for us as church!
• Anita went to Puerto Lopez to help with the Vacation Bible School (leading and teaching). She prepared all the materials. Also, we gave them some Bible study materials (tracts, books for the pastor, booklets, etc.).

MISCELANEOUS

• This month Joselito finished his doctoral program in Theology (ThD) and will graduate on April 13. He's very excited, tired, and thankful. Praise to the Lord!
• Joselito is writing his new book for the SBPH (http://www.casabautista.org/). The theme is the contemporary problems in the ministry (an apologetic and biblical perspective).

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS

• Next month Anita will begin her masters program in counseling. Pray for her!
• Pray for our physical health; Anita & I were very sick with influenza.
• Please pray for our economic support , right now it is very low (this is critical).
• And especially pray for a new laptop & data projector.

OUR FAMILY

• We are planning to work mostly in the countryside this year. We will help four churches. Our daughters are very involved inthis task.
• Anita is working very hard with ladies and children
• Joselito is teaching, preaching, and writing.

OUR MINISTRY

• Joselito preached at the last Sunday service (Dec. 31/07) of the Baptist Church in Puerto Lopez, and Anita helped in their Sunday School class. We shared Bible materials with them.
• Joselito preached the first sermon of 2007 at Candelaria Baptist Church.
• We had the first intensive meeting of our School of Ministry (www.bibletraining.org) at our home church (Jan 22-26). Joselito taught pastoral ethics and Anita taught Christian Education.
• Joselito went to Guayaquil, for a meeting with the seminary national council and a meeting with national Baptist young people.
• We are the hosting the Latin-American Baptist youth congress in October 2007.
• We are using the materials of The Bible League with our churches in the countryside (Candelaria for example). These materials are verybiblical, and easy to use.

MISCELLANEOUS

• The president of the WorldBaptist Alliance ( www.wbanet.org), Dr. David Coffey visited Ecuador and Joselito was his driver in Quito. We had a few business meetings, church service, and nice fellowship. Before his visit to Quito, he went to Puerto Lopez, and visited our little Baptist Church there. He was very enthusiastic about this work!
• Joselito was invited by the Spanish Baptist Publishing House (www.casabautista.org ) to write the commentary on Mark's Gospel and other books. He's very excited about this, and he's going do it!
• Also you can see news about through the website for the ministry New Beginning Resources www.nbri.net They are helping to support our ministryin Ecuador.

OUR PRAYER REQUESTS

• We need to get a new laptop & projector. This is veryimportant in our education ministry, also for evangelism in rural areas (project films).
• Pray for a new church in the countryside that we hope to help this year (140 Km from Quito).
• Pray for our economic support. Right now it is very low, and we have many debts to pay. Thisis an urgent request; don't forget to pray for us.

OUR FAMILY
We are very excited for your partnership with us in this year. We want to give many thanks for you, for your love and care for us. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year 2007. May God bless you richly. We are going to take one week to rest and to dedicate special time to our family. This year was very productive but so tiring. Thanks again!

OUR MINISTRY

• We visited Candelaria Baptist Church, and Joselito preached about biblical obedience. After three days, Joselito also preached, two times, at the burial of a good sister from Candelaria Baptist Church. She was the sister in law of the pastor there. Near 1300 people attended and listened to the preaching of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus.
• We went to Toachi, for the national elections, and Joselito & Anita shared with the Sunday school adults and kids, in the New Life Baptist Church.
• We had a Special ordination ceremony for our pastor at UBC. Joselito preached and coordinated this program.
• Joselito was invited to preach in the special Christmas ceremony in our High School in Pifo. It was an opportune time to share the Gospel of Jesus among our students, teachers and parents.
• We had a special Christmas party in the School of our daughter, and then in our Church. It was a nice time for Christmas songs, dramas, candies, etc.
• We resigned as associate pastor in University Baptist Church, because our Schedule is very busy.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Joselito went to Manta (Manabi province), sent by Latin-American Christian University, to teach an intensive course about Bibliology. Also in Quito he shared this course.
• Joselito went to Guayaquil for Vision International University, to teach an intensive course about Missiology. It was my first time with them.
• Joselito is working out a special arrangment for Ecuadorian Baptist Theological Seminary with another University. The new area director is asking Joselito to continue for one year more, and I'm praying about this..!
• We shared Christmas candies for poor children of Loja (Cariamanga), Puerto Lopez (Manabi), and in our neighborhood (Anita 's Bible Club)

OUR PRAYERS REQUEST

• For the next year: We have big goals, and we are looking for the specific direction from the Lord for us.
• Many thanks to my Lord for my doctoral program. I delivered my PhD thesis.
